Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno for second terms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders, drawn from the Akwa Ibom North-west Senatorial District, announced their support during a meeting in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District at the weekend.
They pledged to deploy their political structures to support the re-election bids of the three leaders.
The endorsement followed a review of the political situation in the state and an assessment of the leaders’ performances and contributions.
Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Unyime Idem, read the resolution contained in a communique adopted through a voice vote.
The motion was moved by Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien and seconded by Hon. Iboro Ekanem.
The stakeholders endorsed Tinubu for a second term as President, Akpabio for another term as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-west, and Eno for a second term as governor.
The endorsement attracted attention because it cut across party lines, with Akwa Ibom PDP Chairman, Aniekan Akpan, and other opposition politicians attending the meeting.
Reacting to the development, Akpabio attributed the support to what he described as the peaceful political atmosphere in Akwa Ibom.
He said the emerging unity among politicians had brought opposition members together to support Tinubu, himself and Eno.
Akpabio expressed confidence that the endorsement would translate into electoral support for the three leaders in 2027.
He said the people of Akwa Ibom North-west would demonstrate their support for Tinubu and Eno at the polls.
Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Don Etiebet; retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Udom Ekpoudom; and Senators Aloysius Etuk, Emmanuel Ibokessien and Chris Ekpenyong were among the prominent figures who attended the meeting.
