The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, has urged politicians seeking elective office in the 2027 general elections to conduct peaceful campaigns, obey electoral rules, and avoid character assassination.
Speaking at the 2026 NCPC Annual General Staff Retreat in Gora, Nasarawa State, Adegbite said aspirants should prove their popularity at the ballot box rather than resort to violence or inflammatory rhetoric.
“We want Nigeria to move forward, but without peace Nigeria cannot move forward,” he said, reaffirming the commission’s commitment to praying and working for peace across the country.
He also urged religious leaders to exercise restraint in their public comments, stressing the need to promote peace, national unity, and responsible leadership.
On the forthcoming pilgrimage exercise, Adegbite said the retreat was designed to prepare staff for the 2026 pilgrimage, noting that the commission had successfully airlifted about 40,000 Nigerian Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land over the past two years.
He expressed optimism that pilgrimages to Israel would resume once peace returns to the region, allowing Nigerian Christians to pray for lasting peace and a successful 2027 general election.
