Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged political stakeholders supporting President Bola Tinubu to work for his victory at the ward, local government and state levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike gave the charge on Saturday while speaking with journalists during an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja.
He said political supporters should focus on delivering electoral victories in their respective areas rather than pursuing positions in the presidential campaign structure.
“Every politics is local. If you cannot deliver the president in your state, how will you say you want an election?” Wike said.
Wike Rejects Campaign Council Role
The minister also explained why he would not seek the position of Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Wike, who reiterated that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said supporting Tinubu does not require membership of the President’s campaign council.
“We don’t need to be members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. We are doing our own work,” he said.
He said political groups that supported Tinubu in 2023 operated through what he called a “Rainbow Coalition” and would continue to work across different states in 2027.
Wike added that he would rather focus on his political base, stressing that campaign positions mean little if a politician cannot deliver his or her state.
Wike Lists FCT Projects as Tinubu’s ‘Campaign’
The FCT minister said ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja would serve as evidence of the Tinubu administration’s performance ahead of the 2027 election.
“When people have asked me about campaign, I say, ‘What is campaign? See the campaign!’ Campaign is what have you done for the people?” he said.
Wike inspected the Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre dualisation of the Bwari-Kubwa Satellite Town access road.
He said the Apo-Karshi Road, originally awarded in 2010, was terminated and re-awarded to SCC because of its importance to residents.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and said the contractor had indicated that the project would be completed by November.
On the Bwari-Kubwa road, he described the 14-kilometre dualisation as a major intervention that would improve connectivity and economic activities across the satellite towns.
The minister said the FCT Administration was targeting the completion and commissioning of several major projects before the 2027 elections.
He disclosed that the number could exceed the 10 projects earlier targeted for completion, depending on the progress of ongoing works.
Wike said the administration remained committed to delivering projects that would have a direct impact on the lives and economic activities of FCT residents.
