President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi.
Adeniyi whose tenure was originally set to conclude on August 31, 2025, will now run until August 2026.
The extension is aimed at sustaining momentum on several critical reform programmes under his leadership.
According to a statement signed by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension will allow the Customs boss to consolidate gains in modernising the Service, advance the implementation of the National Single Window project, and ensure Nigeria delivers on its commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu commended Adeniyi for his “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,”.
He notes that his continued stewardship is key to enhancing the Customs Service’s capacity in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
The statement adds that with this renewed mandate, the administration signals its resolve to deepen institutional reforms and drive economic integration in line with its broader economic agenda.
