The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory has called on Nigerians to see the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as a vital opportunity to influence governance and protect democracy.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. John Hayab, emphasised that voter registration remains the first and most crucial step for citizens determined to make their voices heard in the political process.
Hayb further warned against apathy, stressing that disengagement only strengthens politicians who benefit from low voter turnout.“Our votes count. If votes were useless, no one would attempt to buy them. Nigerians should understand that the real power lies in the ballot and not in money shared during elections,” Hayab stated.
The cleric urged faith leaders across denominations to scale up voter sensitisation efforts within congregations and communities, describing religious platforms as some of the most effective tools for mass mobilisation.
