The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, will reconvene at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) in what will be its first plenary session since the end of the six-month emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu.
The sitting, scheduled to take place at the Conference Hall within the Legislative Quarters on Aba Road, marks the official resumption of legislative business in the state after months of political disruption. The hall has served as a temporary chamber for lawmakers following the demolition of the Assembly complex on Moscow Road, which was destroyed by arson during the height of the political crisis.
Amaewhule is expected to preside over proceedings, as the Assembly resumes full lawmaking functions. Political observers say today’s sitting will be closely monitored for signals on how the legislature intends to engage with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other stakeholders in the state’s fragile return to democratic governance.
