Tinubu Celebrates Ex-Head of State General Gowon 91st Birthday

President Bola Tinubu has celebrated former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), on his 91st birthday, hailing him as a patriot whose leadership continues to shape Nigeria’s unity and progress.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, President Tinubu joined family, friends, and well-wishers across the country in honoring the former leader.

President Tinubu joins Nigerians in honoring former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon on his 91st birthday, commending his leadership and dedication to national unity.

The President praised Gowon’s “unwavering patriotism, visionary leadership, and enduring contributions to national peace and development.” He highlighted the former Head of State’s pivotal role in promoting national cohesion and his steadfast service to Nigeria, both during and after his tenure from 1966 to 1975.

“General Gowon’s exemplary statesmanship and continued counsel in national affairs remain invaluable to the growth and stability of the nation,” President Tinubu said.

The President prayed for the elder statesman, wishing him long life, good health, and renewed strength to continue his service to humanity.

General Gowon, who led Nigeria through some of its most challenging periods, remains widely respected for his dedication to national unity and development, and continues to be a prominent voice in the country’s political and historical discourse.
