The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) have agreed to integrate data systems.
They also agreed to launch joint public campaigns, and set up an enforcement committee to strengthen road safety and insurance compliance under the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025.
This was part of the resolutions reached during a courtesy visit by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, to the Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, at NAICOM Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Under the new arrangement, NAICOM and FRSC will share data in real time to improve accident response and compensation, while a joint campaign will educate motorists on road safety and the benefits of genuine insurance.
An enforcement committee will also be established to curb fake motor insurance policies and ensure full compliance with the compulsory third-party insurance scheme.
The FRSC Corps Marshal commended NAICOM for its reform initiatives and emphasized the need for digital solutions to verify motor insurance instantly.
In response, Omosehin noted that NIIRA 2025 introduced a victims’ compensation fund to be managed by a committee that includes FRSC representation.
Also speaking, the NHIA representative, Ajodi Nuhu Nasir, said the collaboration would guarantee faster medical care for crash victims and reduce fatalities on Nigerian roads.
The partnership is expected to deliver safer roads, better protection for motorists, and a stronger insurance system nationwide.
