Nigeria, US Strengthen Fight Against Narco-Terrorism

By Oluwakemi Kindness

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration have renewed their partnership to tackle drug trafficking and narco-terrorism.

This was the focus of a joint counter-narcotics workshop held in Abuja on Tueaday.

“Drug Trade Fuels Terrorism” – Marwa

NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, said illicit drugs are a major source of funding for terrorist groups.

“By attacking the drug trade, we are starving the engines of terrorism,” he said.

He warned that Nigeria is increasingly being targeted as a transit hub for drugs heading to Europe, North America, and Asia.

Focus on Joint Action

Marwa said the workshop aims to:

* Strengthen intelligence sharing

* Enhance joint operations

* Disrupt drug financing networks

He added that a coordinated action plan for the next year will be developed.

U.S Backs NDLEA Efforts

DEA Country Attaché, Daphne Morrison, praised NDLEA’s progress, citing record arrests and seizures.

She described the partnership as a unified front against transnational criminal networks.

Both countries say the collaboration will be practical and results-driven, targeting drug cartels and cutting off funding for terrorism.
