Greenbull RFC Defeat Isukwuato RFC 12–0 to Win Tournament

Greenbull RFC delivered a dominant performance to defeat Isukwuato RFC 12–0, securing the South East Rugby Tournament title.

The competition, organised by the Southeast Rugby Football Association in partnership with Martina Martins Seed Foundation and Msportslink, featured five teams, Greenbull RFC, Isukwuato RFC, Oteji RFC, AJ-Green RFC, and Coal City RFC, in a display of grassroots rugby development in the region.

In the final, Greenbull RFC combined a disciplined defensive structure with aggressive line speed and effective ruck play, limiting Isukwuato RFC’s attacking opportunities. Their control of possession translated into two well-executed tries and a successful conversion, sealing a comprehensive shutout victory.

Isukwuato RFC finished as runners-up, while Oteji RFC placed third. AJ-Green RFC and Coal City RFC finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Beyond the matches, the tournament featured seminars and workshops focused on youth development, player safety, and fundamental rugby skills, underscoring efforts to strengthen the sport at the grassroots level.

Speaking after the event, the Southeast Zonal Representative on the board of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Onyekachi Stephen Ibegbulam, commended the level of participation and commitment shown by teams and supporters.

He highlighted the challenges faced by clubs in sustaining rugby in the region and acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders, including Anderson Akaliro, for supporting grassroots development.

Special recognition was also given to Ugochukwu Anunobi, alongside partners, officials, volunteers, coaches, and medical teams for their roles in the tournament’s success.

Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding rugby in the South East, describing the competition as a platform for talent discovery and community engagement.
