Gov Yusuf Orders Probe into Alleged N1.5bn Salary Deductions

By Zainab Bakare

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has ordered a full investigation into the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from workers’ salaries in the state.

The directive was issued on Friday during the International Workers’ Day held at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The governor said the probe would focus on allegations involving a former Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, adding that the investigation is aimed at establishing the facts surrounding the deductions.

He assured workers that anyone found culpable would face appropriate sanctions, stressing that any recovered funds would be refunded to affected workers. Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of workers’ welfare.

The governor also pledged to clear outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retirees.

He disclosed that the state had already paid N32 billion out of the N48 billion inherited from the previous administration, with a promise to settle the remaining balance before the end of his tenure in 2027.

Earlier, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kabir Inuwa, commended the government for regular payment of salaries and efforts to settle retirees’ benefits.
