The National APC Christian Leaders Forum of Nigeria (NACLFON) has called on Christians and other Nigerians to unite in prayer for the country’s peace, security and economic recovery at its planned Mega Prayer for Nigeria scheduled to hold on Saturday in Abuja.
NACLFON, a support group within the All-Progressives Congress (APC) that mobilizes Christian stakeholders and advocates for nation-building, made the call on Friday during a news conference in Abuja, where it outlined the objectives of the interdenominational prayer gathering themed, “Oh God, Heal Our Land,” drawn from 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Speaking on behalf of the National President and Coordinator of NACLFON, Professor Abraham Olarewaju Peters, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the event, Venerable Godson Onukwugha, said the prayer session would bring together Christians across denominations, faith-based organisations, APC support groups and patriotic Nigerians to seek divine intervention for the nation’s challenges.
According to him, the prayer rally, scheduled to take place at Eagle Square, Abuja, is neither a political campaign nor a protest, but a spiritual gathering aimed at interceding for Nigeria.
He said participants would pray for peace, national unity, security, economic recovery, food security, youth and women empowerment, protection of lives and property, and the success of government policies designed to improve the welfare of Nigerians.
Onukwugha said special prayers would also be offered for President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President, the National Assembly, the judiciary, governors, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, and all Nigerians.
“We are gathering to pray for our leaders because leadership is a sacred responsibility. We believe that when God grants them wisdom and guidance, the nation will benefit,” he said.
He urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s current socio-economic and security challenges, expressing confidence that divine intervention would bring healing and restoration.
The forum also used the opportunity to encourage Christians to participate actively in Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to Onukwugha, political participation, including voting and seeking elective office, is both a civic responsibility and a legitimate avenue for Christians to contribute to national development.
“Our responsibility is not only to pray but also to mobilise Christians to participate responsibly in governance. Every eligible Nigerian has the right to vote and be voted for, and Christians should not distance themselves from the political process,” he said.
He added that the organisation would continue its voter education and mobilisation efforts by encouraging eligible Christians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and take part in future elections.
The organisers said the Mega Prayer for Nigeria would feature praise and worship sessions, hymns, prayers led by senior Christian leaders, as well as participation by youth, women and other Christian groups from across the country.
NACLFON appealed to churches, security agencies, medical teams, volunteers, media organisations and other stakeholders to support the event to ensure a peaceful and orderly gathering, while also urging Nigerians from all walks of life to attend the programme and join in prayers for national healing, unity and progress.
