President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Andy Burnham on his assumption of office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to deepening its long-standing partnership with Britain.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, President Tinubu also congratulated the Government and people of the United Kingdom on what he describes as a peaceful and orderly transition of leadership, noting that it reflects the country’s enduring democratic values and strong constitutional institutions.
The President recalled his official visit to the United Kingdom in March 2026, during which he held productive discussions with the former Prime Minister, expressing confidence that the new administration would build on the progress achieved during those engagements.
Tinubu says he looks forward to meeting Prime Minister Burnham at the earliest opportunity, both bilaterally and within the framework of the Commonwealth, to advance cooperation in key areas of mutual interest and further strengthen the strategic relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
He wishes Prime Minister Burnham a successful tenure and reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with his administration to promote shared priorities, enhance bilateral relations, and address global challenges together.
