The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, ANOC Africa, has applauded Nigeria’s impressive performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
ANOC Africa President and IOC member, Mustapha Berraf, conveyed the organisation’s commendation in a letter to the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Habu Gumel, on Tuesday.
Berraf praised Team Nigeria’s athletes, coaches, officials and other stakeholders, describing their performance as a product of rigorous preparation, clear vision and unwavering commitment to the development of sport.
He said Nigeria’s achievement resonates beyond its borders, further highlighting the growing influence of African nations on the global sporting stage and providing inspiration for young athletes across the continent.
Nigeria finished the Games with an impressive 24 medals — 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze — emerging as Africa’s highest-ranked nation in the overall medal standings.
Berraf also reaffirmed ANOC Africa’s support for Nigeria’s continued sporting development, while commending the athletes for demonstrating determination, discipline and excellence.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games held from July 23 to August 2, with Nigeria’s strong medal haul further underlining its growing prominence in African and global sport.
