TUC Pickets Abuja Continental Hotel Over Labour Disputes

By Chinedu Echianu

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has begun picketing the Abuja Continental Hotel over alleged unfair labour practices, poor working conditions and attempts to prevent workers from unionising.

The action is being led by the Hotel and Personal Service Senior Staff Association, an affiliate of the TUC.

The union had accused the hotel management of undermining workers’ freedom of association and failing to address concerns raised over their working conditions.

TUC General Secretary, Nuhu Toro, led union officials and protesting workers to the hotel premises in Abuja, on Monday August 24,, where they blocked the main entrance as part of the action.

The union said it decides to begin the picketing after several attempts to engage the hotel management over the workers’ grievances failed to yield a resolution.

The dispute centres on workers’ rights to organise, their working conditions and the union’s demand for management to address their concerns.
