Pensioners of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), have appealed to Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji to urgently intervene over unpaid pensions, gratuities and other outstanding entitlements.
The BOUESTI Pensioners Association made the appeal in a letter dated September 7, 2026, addressed to the governor and signed by its Chairman, Dr Kola Ajaja, and Public Relations Officer, Alao Odeyemi.
The pensioners said the university had failed to pay their August 2026 pension, while retirees received only 50 per cent of their July pension.
According to the association, the delays have subjected many retirees to severe financial hardship and ill-health, with some reportedly dying prematurely.
The pensioners said many retirees depend solely on their pensions to pay for medication and other basic needs.
They also accused the university management of withholding outstanding gratuities and arrears arising from the new minimum wage and the 20 to 28 per cent pension increase.
The association further alleged that the institution had not implemented the 2019 consequential adjustment in pension for its retired workers.
Their demands include full payment of the August 2026 pension, the remaining 50 per cent of the July pension arrears, and arrears arising from the new minimum wage and the 20 to 28 per cent pension increase.
They are also demanding implementation of the 2019 consequential pension adjustment and payment of all outstanding gratuities.
The association said it chose to appeal directly to Governor Oyebanji rather than stage public protests because it believes he would respond to their plight urgently.
The pensioners said prompt government intervention would enable retirees to meet their healthcare and other basic needs and help prevent further avoidable deaths.
