President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years in public office, describing the milestone as a “rare achievement in any democracy.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Tinubu said Modi entered public office in 2001 as Chief Minister of Gujarat before becoming India’s Prime Minister in 2014.
The Nigerian President credited Modi’s leadership with advancing India’s infrastructure, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation.
Tinubu also said Modi’s leadership transformed Gujarat and contributed to India’s emergence as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies.
He recalled Modi’s November 2024 state visit to Abuja, where Nigeria honoured him with the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.
According to Tinubu, the visit strengthened cooperation between Nigeria and India in trade and investment, energy, defence and security, health, education and technology.
Tinubu said both countries, as democracies and leading voices of the Global South, shared a commitment to building a more inclusive and representative international order.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria-India relations would continue to grow under Modi’s leadership and wished the Indian Prime Minister good health, strength and continued success.
