Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day for all state public servants to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The directive covers employees in the state civil service, local government councils and tertiary institutions.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the approval was conveyed through a circular signed by the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina.
According to the government, the work-free day is intended to give workers the opportunity to fulfil their civic responsibility by obtaining their PVCs ahead of the election and future electoral exercises.
The exemption, however, does not apply to personnel providing essential services, including healthcare workers and security agencies. Ministries, departments and agencies offering critical services have been directed to make adequate arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Governor Adeleke urged all eligible voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so without delay, stressing that participation in the electoral process begins with possessing a valid voter card.
“Your vote is your power. Your voter card is your access to the ballot paper and, by extension, the ballot box,” the governor said.
