Members of the African Girl Guides Association have visited the headquarters of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Abuja on an educational tour designed to deepen civic education, leadership skills, and national values among young Nigerians.
The visit gave the participants firsthand insight into the Agency’s mandate and its role in promoting patriotism, responsible citizenship, and national development through public enlightenment and civic engagement.
Addressing the delegation, Director of the Abuse Rights and Narcotics (ARN) Department, Mrs. Acharu Opaluwa, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to building a value-driven society.
She said the NOA collaborates with bloggers, content creators, and media organisations to amplify government policies and drive national reorientation campaigns across the country.
Opaluwa highlighted key initiatives of the Agency, including the National Values Charter, the Citizens’ Value Brigade, and the CHLEEAN App, noting that they are designed to promote patriotism, educate citizens on their rights and responsibilities, and raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and other social vices.
Speaking on behalf of the African Girl Guides Association, Sophia Okiasi thanked the Agency for hosting the delegation, describing the visit as part of the Association’s leadership development programme aimed at exposing members to the functions of key national institutions involved in civic education and nation-building.
Participants also received presentations from Deputy Director, Esther Akor on the National Values Charter and the Citizens’ Code, with emphasis on responsible citizenship, democratic governance, ethical leadership, and respect for national values.
The delegation was further enlightened on Nigeria’s national symbols, including the significance of the national flag and the importance of respecting national symbols as expressions of unity, patriotism, and national identity.
The educational tour ended with a vote of thanks by Assistant Director Robinson Okechi, who commended the participants for their enthusiasm and urged them to become ambassadors of the values and principles they had learned.
The visit underscored the growing importance of civic education in nurturing responsible young leaders and fostering national unity.
