Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the foremost leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, describing him as a patriot par excellence and a statesman of uncommon integrity.

Bamidele said the late centenarian consistently placed the national interest above personal and sectional considerations, leaving an enduring legacy of selflessness, principled leadership and commitment to Nigeria’s development.

In a condolence message, the Senate Leader noted that Fasoranti, an educationist, school administrator and community leader, positively influenced generations of Nigerians and made significant contributions to national development.

He said the late Afenifere leader would be remembered for his unwavering commitment to true federalism, national unity and progress.

Bamidele also described Fasoranti as one of the last surviving Awoists and a vital link between the politics of the First Republic and the Fourth Republic.

According to him, the late elder statesman remained a custodian of the progressive ideals of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose political philosophy shaped generations of progressive leaders in Nigeria.

He added that Fasoranti’s wise counsel, moral authority and stabilising voice would be greatly missed, particularly at a critical period in the nation’s history.

The Senate Leader, on behalf of his family, constituents and the Senate, extended condolences to the Fasoranti family, the government and people of Ondo State, Afenifere and the entire Yoruba nation.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family and associates the strength to bear the loss.
