Barau Urges Kano North Residents to Back Tinubu, APC

By Anayo Akwitti

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has urged residents of Kano North Senatorial District to close ranks behind President Bola Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party gears up for the 2027 elections.

Jibrin made the appeal on Wednesday while receiving two delegations from Dambatta Local Government Area at his office at the National Assembly in Abuja, according to a statement issued by his media adviser, Ismail Mudashir.

Ex-rival turns ally

The first delegation was led by Hafiz Maidaji, a former three-term Kano State lawmaker who had contested and lost the APC primary for the Dambatta/Makoda Federal Constituency seat.

Maidaji had initially challenged the primary result in court but later withdrew the suit at Jibrin’s urging, opting instead to work within the party.

Jibrin praised the move as a sign of political maturity.

“The decision by Hon. Hafiz Maidaji to withdraw the case and continue to work with the party is a testament to the maturity and unity we must uphold,” he said, adding that it “strengthens our collective efforts in Dambatta/Makoda.”

Empowerment drive

A second delegation, led by Jibrin’s senior legislative aide in Dambatta, Abdullahi Dan Bayero, thanked the deputy Senate president for ongoing development projects across the district.

Jibrin, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, pointed to a running empowerment scheme that gives โ‚ฆ100,000 in startup capital monthly to 1,300 petty traders and artisans, alongside distributions of fertiliser, water pumps, grinding machines, sewing machines, motorcycles and refrigerators.

“Our objective is to ensure that every household in Kano North has something meaningful to do and that our people become economically independent,” he said.

Unity message

Closing his remarks, Jibrin called on constituents not to let political rivalries derail the district’s development.

“I therefore appeal to all of us to remain united. Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, myself as your Senator, and all candidates of the APC contesting the 2027 elections,” he said.

“With unity, loyalty, and collective commitment, we can achieve a more prosperous Kano North and a stronger Nigeria.”he added
