The Federal Government says it is committed to addressing the welfare, remuneration and pension concerns of military veterans.
According to a statement by the Director Information and Public Relations, H.O Ogubike, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Retd.), gave the assurance during a meeting with representatives of military veterans at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Richard Pheelangwah, the Minister acknowledged the sacrifices of veterans and said their welfare remains a priority for the government.
He said relevant military, pension and financial authorities were working to resolve concerns over wage and pension adjustments.
General Musa urged the veterans to remain patient, stressing that continued dialogue would help resolve outstanding issues while protecting the dignity of those who served the country.
He said any adjustment to veterans’ entitlements must be properly calculated, adequately funded and implemented in line with existing approvals and regulations.
The Minister assured the veterans that the Defence Ministry would maintain dialogue with their representatives and provide updates as progress is made.
He reaffirmed the government’s appreciation of the patriotism and sacrifices of military veterans, saying their service must be matched by sustained attention to their welfare and legitimate entitlements.
