The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has inaugurated a General Court Martial to try 36 serving military personnel over alleged acts of mutiny linked to attempts to overthrow the government.
The development follows an earlier statement issued by the DHQ on January 26, 2026.
In a statement released on Friday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, says the court martial is a step to reinforce discipline, accountability, and the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting national stability and constitutional authority.
He says the proceedings will be conducted in line with due process, fairness, and impartiality under established military justice procedures.
The DHQ added that the process will ensure justice is served without bias, while protecting the rights of all personnel and upholding fair hearing principles.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the rule of law within the Armed Forces.
