The Edo State Police Command has imposed a statewide restriction on movement from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, to strengthen security during the local government elections.
The command said the restriction is designed to ensure a peaceful, orderly and secure election and will be enforced with support from other security agencies.
Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem said all vehicular and pedestrian movement would be prohibited during the period.
However, officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), accredited election observers, media personnel, security agencies, emergency responders and other essential workers on election duty will be allowed to move.
The police said security personnel have been deployed across the state’s 18 local government areas to protect voters, electoral officials and election materials, while maintaining law and order.
The command warned that anyone who violates the movement restriction or attempts to disrupt the election will be arrested and prosecuted.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured residents that adequate security measures are in place for a peaceful and credible election.
He urged eligible voters to conduct themselves responsibly and comply with guidelines issued by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.
