The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has called on Muslims to reflect deeply on the essence of sacrifice during Eid al-Adha, urging them to embrace the practice as an act of unwavering devotion to Almighty Allah.
Prof. Sulaiman, who is currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, made the call on Wednesday, in a statement issued through his media aide, Mohammad Abdulkadri, to mark the Eid al-Adha celebrations.
He cautioned against reducing the spiritual significance of animal sacrifice to mere festivities or showmanship, stressing that it should instead reflect deeper values of spirituality, piety, charity, and unity among people of all races.
The NILDS DG congratulated Muslims for witnessing another Eid, noting that the celebration should also serve as an opportunity to pray for a better Nigeria and renewed national progress.
He further urged Muslims to show compassion to neighbours, particularly the less privileged who may not be able to afford sacrificial animals, and to extend festive meals to people of other faiths to strengthen inter-religious harmony.
Prof. Sulaiman also called for renewed commitment to peace and national security as the country looks ahead to the 2027 general elections, wishing Muslims a joyful and prosperous celebration.
