The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has praised two recent court judgments that boost consumer confidence and strengthen accountability in Nigeria’s marketplace.
The rulings include a ₦5 million compensation order against Multichoice Nigeria Limited and a decision declaring Peace Mass Transit’s “no refund after paayment” policy unlawful.
In a statement issued on Monday by the FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the Commission said the court rulings highlight the growing impact of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018 and the courts’ commitment to protecting consumers from unfair practices.
Ijagwu quoted the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Tunji Bello, as commending the judiciary for ensuring fair outcomes that uphold consumer rights.
He noted that the FCCPA provides clear channels for grievances, and the courts have demonstrated willingness to enforce them.
Bello revealed that the Commission recovered over ₦10 billion for consumers across 30 sectors between March and August 2025, a signal of improved enforcement nationwide.
