The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesome wike on Friday issued a stern warning to officials responsible for waste management in Abuja’s satellite towns, threatening to terminate appointments if refuse seen along major roads is not cleared immediately.
The warning came during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects along the Karu, Karshi, Bwari and Kubwa corridors, where heaps of refuse were spotted along the Orozo–Apo–Karshi axis.
The minister assured residents that the waste would be cleared promptly, stressing that accountability would be enforced across all departments.
Beyond sanitation, the inspection also highlighted massive infrastructure development across the FCT’s satellite towns, following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expand road networks beyond the city centre.
The minister disclosed that all internal roads in Karu have been reconstructed by an indigenous contractor, Abdul-Val, while the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road — originally awarded in 2010 — was terminated and re-awarded to SCC after repeated delays by the
former contractor.
He also described the Bwari–Kubwa Road as a major economic artery that will boost commercial activities, alongside the ongoing reconstruction of the Gbazango–Kubwa Road.
According to him, the projects will significantly improve mobility, stimulate local economies and improve the quality of life for residents who had long been without proper road infrastructure.
He added that the developments align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring residents that both infrastructure delivery and environmental standards would be taken seriously.
