The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a suspected logistics supplier linked to the kidnappers responsible for the July 8 attack at Yellow House in Mpape, Abuja, in a major breakthrough against kidnapping in the nation’s capital.
Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi, said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested the suspect, Umaru Danda, in Gadabiu village, Niger State, on July 10 during a follow-up operation on the Mpape kidnapping.
According to the police commissioner, investigations revealed that Danda allegedly supplied hard drugs, logistics and other illicit substances to the criminal gang that carried out the attack.
Sanusi disclosed that the suspect later led investigators to three hideouts used by the kidnappers in Niger State, where officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, large quantities of tramadol, suspected cocaine, cannabis, Embazol tablets, a digital weighing scale, two ATM cards, two AirPods, two bags and N250,000 in cash.
He said the suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a separate operation, the FCT Police also rescued a kidnap victim abducted in Karshi on July 12 without the payment of ransom.
Sanusi explained that the victim was safely rescued during a tactical operation in the early hours of July 16 after operatives combed the Karshi axis and the adjoining Waru Hills, a known route linking the FCT with Nasarawa State.
Items recovered during the rescue operation included a locally painted Makarov pistol, a dagger, military camouflage clothing and assorted charms.
The police commissioner confirmed that the victim received medical attention before being reunited with her family and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen the fight against crime across the Federal Capital Territory.
