The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a comprehensive review of key allowances for civil servants as part of efforts to address rising living costs and improve public service delivery.
In a statement made available by the National Orientation Agency NOA, says the review, announced through the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, affects allowances under the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure. It covers duty tour allowance, estacode, shift duty, and training support.
The government said the adjustment is aimed at easing the burden on workers who often face long hours, specialized duties, and official travel outside their duty stations.
it describes the move as part of efforts to restore confidence, dignity, and motivation within the public service in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
The policy is also designed to standardise allowance payments across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, reducing inconsistencies and improving transparency in implementation.
According to the government, the review reflects a broader effort to strengthen fairness and ensure civil servants clearly understand their entitlements.
It is also expected to improve morale and productivity across the public sector by supporting workers more effectively.
Teachers, healthcare workers, administrators, and field officers are among those expected to benefit from the revised structure.
The government expressed hope that improved welfare conditions will translate into better service delivery, stronger institutions, and a more motivated workforce committed to professionalism and national development.
