FG Pledges Support for Credible Investors, Says Shettima

By Mardiyyah Abubakar

Vice President Kashim Shettima says the Federal Government is ready to support viable and credible investments across Nigeria.

Shettima spoke on Monday at the Delta Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, where government officials, investors and business leaders discussed ways to attract local and foreign investments.

He said the growing number of investment summits across states reflects healthy competition and shows that sub-national governments are working harder to drive economic growth.

According to the Vice President, increased revenue has given state governments a stronger financial base to support development and attract investors.

The summit aims to strengthen investor confidence, build strategic partnerships and promote domestic and foreign direct investment in Delta State.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced that the Delta State Government has set aside $100 million, estimated at about ₦133.8 billion, as viability gap funding.

He said the fund would help reduce investment risks and encourage businesses to invest in the state.

Oborevwori also said the government has earmarked more than 12,000 hectares of farmland for agricultural development.

He invited investors to explore opportunities in the production and processing of cassava, oil palm, rice, potatoes and other cash crops.

The governor added that Delta’s coastline offers opportunities for investors to develop the state’s marine economy.

He said the state remains committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses and supporting investments that can create jobs and drive economic growth.
