The Federal Government has asked the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to review the three-letter code assigned to Osubi Airport in Delta State.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made the request in a letter to IATA’s Area Manager for West and Central Africa, Samuel Fatokun, saying the airport’s current code, QRW, does not accurately reflect its official name or location.
Keyamo proposed OSU, OSB, SUB and QSB as possible alternatives, subject to IATA’s coding standards and availability. He said a code linked more closely to Osubi would reduce passenger confusion and improve consistency across ticketing, baggage and other aviation systems.
The Minister also directed airlines operating from the airport to identify it as Osubi, Delta State, on tickets, luggage tags, boarding passes and other passenger documents.
He similarly directed the NCAA, FAAN, NAMA and other aviation agencies to adopt the correct designation in their systems and official records.
Keyamo stressed that the clarification would not diminish the airport’s importance to the wider Warri metropolitan area.
“Osubi is not Warri, and Warri is not Osubi,” the Minister said
