A member of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gadgi, has accused opposition politicians of exploiting Nigeria’s security challenges for political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on a National Television on Tuesday, the lawmaker representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in Plateau State alleged that some critics were using the country’s insecurity to attack the administration of President Bola Tinubu rather than proposing solutions.
According to Gadgi, insecurity remains a serious national challenge, but some opposition figures have chosen to turn it into a political issue.
“They have fallen into the hands of the opposition, who are playing politics with the lives of Nigerians,” he said.
The lawmaker also argued that anyone within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) hoping insecurity would weaken the Tinubu administration was acting against the national interest.
Gadgi further questioned why security challenges appeared to intensify as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gathered momentum, while urging Nigerians to support efforts aimed at improving security and to hold government accountable without politicising the issue.
His comments come amid renewed public concern over insecurity following attacks and kidnappings reported in several parts of the country.
President Bola Tinubu had on June 12 warned bandits, kidnappers and terrorists to surrender or face the full force of the law, pledging that his administration would intensify efforts to restore security across the country.
Despite those assurances, the Federal Government has continued to face criticism from some Nigerians and opposition figures over its handling of insecurity, with critics calling for more proactive measures to address the crisis
