Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has called on Nigerians to play a more active role in the fight against insecurity by promptly reporting suspicious activities, insisting that public cooperation remains a critical weapon in combating crime across the country.
The IGP made the appeal during the official reception for police officers who participated in the successful rescue of kidnapped victims in Oyo State, where he commended their bravery and professionalism.
Disu said security agencies have strengthened inter-agency collaboration, with the Nigeria Police Force, the military and other security organisations working closely through joint operations, intelligence-sharing and coordinated training to tackle criminality.
According to him, the renewed partnership among security agencies has continued to produce positive results, pointing to the recent rescue of three kidnapped victims by the Kogi State Police Command as evidence of the gains being recorded nationwide.
He assured Nigerians that the Police Force would provide more regular updates on security operations to keep the public informed and strengthen confidence in law enforcement efforts.
The IGP also defended the Force’s tradition of honouring officers who lose their lives in the line of duty, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices must never be forgotten.
He pledged continued support for the families of fallen officers while reaffirming the Force’s commitment to recognising acts of courage and service.
Disu stressed that security is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to provide timely, accurate and credible information to security agencies.
“If you see something, say something,” the IGP said, noting that early reporting can save lives, prevent crime and strengthen national security.
