Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Navy turned back six vessels that attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz through routes not approved by Iranian authorities, state television reported on Monday.
According to the report, the incident happened overnight when the vessels tried to use an unauthorised route through the strategic waterway.
A state television correspondent said the IRGC Navy fired warning shots before stopping the vessels and forcing them to turn back.
Earlier, state television reported that one vessel was involved in an incident but did not provide further details.
On Saturday, the Revolutionary Guards also said they stopped four vessels attempting to pass through the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz after firing warning shots.
Iran has maintained an effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the Middle East war in late February, raising concerns over global shipping and oil supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes, making developments in the waterway closely watched by the international community.
