A House of Representatives aspirant in Kebbi State, Aminullahi Mustapha, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move expected to bolster the ruling party’s strength ahead of future elections.
Mustapha, who sought the ADC ticket for the Jega/Gwandu/Aliero Federal Constituency, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 5, 2026, addressed to the party’s Ward Chairman in Magaji B Ward, Jega Local Government Area.
He said his resignation takes immediate effect, explaining that the decision followed extensive consultations with his supporters, political stakeholders and other well-wishers across the constituency.
According to him, joining the APC reflects his commitment to advancing the development of the Jega/Gwandu/Aliero Federal Constituency and aligns with his broader vision for a better Nigeria.
“After wide consultations with my supporters, stakeholders and critical well-wishers of Jega/Gwandu/Aliero Federal Constituency, and due to my unwavering commitment to the progress and development of our people, I have decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Mustapha said.
The former ADC aspirant, who is regarded as a political ally of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, expressed appreciation to the ADC for the opportunity to contest on its platform and thanked party members for their support during his time in the party.
Following his defection, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris received Mustapha and thousands of his supporters at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
The development is expected to strengthen the APC’s political foothold in the Jega/Gwandu/Aliero Federal Constituency as political realignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
