Kebbi Releases N172m to Avert ASUU Strike

The Kebbi State Government has approved and released N172.15 million to settle staff allowances at Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, following an ultimatum by ASUU.

Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Tunga, disclosed this during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

Tunga said Governor Nasir Idris approved the payment on August 14 for the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowances and Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowances to members of ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT.

He said the governor also approved N151.52 million to clear identified annual increment arrears owed to university staff, while CATA and CONTTA will be included in the university’s monthly subvention at an annual cost of N2.06 billion.

Tunga added that the governor’s approvals for the Ministry of Higher Education in August amounted to N2.07 billion, including N1.75 billion for seven air-conditioned buses for state-owned tertiary institutions. He also announced the appointment of Dr Zayyanu Umar as Provost of Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu.
