Former Delta Queens Head Coach, Samaila Samaila Marwa, popularly known as Keshi, has reacted to the termination of his appointment by the Delta State Sports Commission, saying he accepts the decision and had, in fact, planned to resign over a month ago.
Marwa said he took up the role with enthusiasm and clear professional objectives for the team but was not given the operational freedom required to effectively carry out his duties as head coach.
“I welcome the termination. Truthfully, I had already made up my mind to resign about a month ago. Unfortunately, I was not given the free hand needed to properly do my job. Still, I remained committed for the sake of the players and the club,” he said.
The former coach clarified that he had no personal issues with the club’s chairman, describing their relationship as cordial and professional. However, he alleged that certain individuals around the club persistently attempted to undermine that relationship.
“I have no problem with the chairman. Our relationship has always been respectful. Sadly, there are people around the club who consistently tried to scuttle that relationship. It appears they have now succeeded,” Marwa stated.
He further revealed that his appointment carried deep personal significance, describing it as a homecoming due to his family roots in Delta State.
“I was genuinely happy to return to Delta State. My mother is from Illah, so coaching Delta Queens felt like coming home.
Unfortunately, it had to end this way, but I accept it with peace,” he added.
Marwa acknowledged that there were other issues surrounding recent developments but said he had chosen to remain silent in the interest of peace and respect for the game.
“There are other matters I would rather keep to myself. This is football — sometimes things happen beyond the pitch. I will not say more for now.
He expressed gratitude to the players, supporters, and football stakeholders in Delta State for the opportunity to serve, while wishing the club success in the future.
“I appreciate the players, fans, and everyone who supported the project. I wish Delta Queens continued success. My journey in football continues, and I am open to new opportunities,” he concluded.
