Stakeholders in Gambari Ward 1, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, alongside the 51 APC ward chairmen in Kwara Central, have rejected Senator Saliu Mustapha’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The groups reaffirmed their support for Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC governorship candidate, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, while passing a vote of confidence in the administration.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the stakeholders said their position was driven by the visible impact of the government’s policies and projects across the state, rather than political considerations.
The ward councillor, Ibrahim Salah, who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, cited improvements in infrastructure, road construction, urban renewal, education, healthcare and economic empowerment as reasons for their continued support for the APC-led administration.
“We are not here because of politics. We are here because the dividends of democracy are now visible, measurable and touching the lives of ordinary Kwara people,” Salah said.
He also highlighted the Kwara State Social Investment Programme, noting that its various initiatives had supported businesses, youths and vulnerable residents.
According to him, 113.57 kilometres of roads have been completed in Kwara Central, alongside other development projects.
The stakeholders urged Governor AbdulRazaq to sustain the momentum of development, complete ongoing projects and further expand empowerment initiatives targeted at youths and women.
