The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, governorship candidate in Zamfara State, Senator Kabir Marafa, has pledged to end insecurity in the state within two years if elected governor in 2027.
He made the pledge on Wednesday during a media chat with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Gusau.
Marafa said his experience as a former commissioner and senator had given him an understanding of the challenges facing Zamfara and how to address them.
“I served as a commissioner for many years in this state. I also served as a senator for many years. I know the problems of this state and how to solve them,” he said.
Marafa said his proposed two-year target would cover insecurity, insurgency, kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
Insecurity remains a major challenge in Zamfara, where authorities and security agencies continue to pursue measures against banditry and kidnapping.
A recent North-West security summit in Gusau also focused on coordinated responses to the region’s security challenges.
The NDC candidate said he would work with relevant authorities to address the security situation if elected.
