The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down three alcohol manufacturing companies in Ota, Ogun State, for allegedly violating the Federal Government’s ban on sachet and PET bottle alcoholic drinks.
The enforcement operation was led by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.
NAFDAC said officials found one factory producing sachet alcohol and storing large quantities of PET bottles. Although the facility was initially placed under enforcement, inspectors later discovered that the seized sachet products had been secretly removed from the premises.
At a second factory, officials allegedly caught the company continuing to produce sachet alcoholic beverages despite the nationwide ban. The premises were immediately sealed.
The agency said a third company had earlier been sanctioned in January, with 22 production machines suspended and millions of PET bottles and sachet packaging materials confiscated for destruction.
During the latest inspection, NAFDAC alleged that the company broke official seals, resumed production and continued manufacturing banned alcoholic drinks. Inspectors also found millions of additional PET bottles at the site before sealing the factory.
NAFDAC said the action reflects its zero-tolerance policy for regulatory violations and reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the nationwide ban on sachet alcohol.
The agency urged members of the public to report the illegal production or sale of banned alcoholic beverages to the nearest NAFDAC office.
