The Nigeria Aquatics Federation(NAqF) has hailed the Nigeria Police Force for releasing two of its elite swimmers, Corporal Collins Ebinga and Corporal Dorcas Oka, to represent Team Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled for July 23 to August 2.
President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Lekan Fatodu, described the approval by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, as a strong demonstration of visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to sports development, noting that the decision will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s medal aspirations at one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events.
Fatodu commended the Inspector-General, a renowned sports enthusiast and accomplished judoka, for creating an enabling environment that allows police athletes to excel both in service and on the international stage.
He also praised the Chairman of the Police Swimming Association, DCP Bello, for his tireless efforts in nurturing swimming talents within the Nigeria Police Force, saying the sustained investment in athlete development is yielding competitors capable of challenging for honours globally.
According to the Aquatics Federation president, the release of Ebinga and Oka represents more than administrative approval, describing it as a powerful vote of confidence that will inspire the athletes to deliver their very best for Nigeria.
“We deeply appreciate the Inspector-General of Police for this invaluable support and encouragement. His commitment to sports has once again demonstrated that Nigerian athletes can count on the backing of the Police Force as they pursue international success,” Fatodu said.
He urged the two swimmers to seize the opportunity with pride, discipline and determination.
“As you step onto the international stage, remember that you carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians. Compete with courage, integrity and excellence, and strive to bring honour to the Nigeria Police Force and our great country,” he added.
Nigeria’s swimming team for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games comprises Abduljabar Adama, Collins Ebinga, Clinton Opute and Dorcas Oka.
The participation of the two police swimmers further highlights the growing partnership between the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and the Nigeria Police Force in producing world-class athletes, with Team Nigeria now looking forward to making a strong statement in the pool when the Commonwealth Games begin in Glasgow later this month.
