The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has commenced the screening exercise for intending pilgrims ahead of the 2025 main pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan.
A statement signed by the Commission’s spokesman, Celestine Toruka says the exercise was formally flagged off on 27 November 2025 in Ikeja, Lagos, where the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, assured participants of their safety during the holy journey. He noted that despite global concerns, Israel remains peaceful and secure for pilgrims.
Adegbite explained that the medical screening was essential for determining the health status of intending pilgrims, ensuring that only those fit for travel embark on the spiritual journey. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented support for both Christian and Muslim pilgrimages, urging pilgrims to continue praying for the success of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Reiterating NCPC’s commitment to preventing abscondment during pilgrimage, the Executive Secretary said the Commission has strengthened measures to achieve zero incidents, stressing its zero-tolerance policy for abscondment.
Speaking at the event, the Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Dr. Omoniyi Okudero, highlighted the importance of the medical and physical screening. He said the process—conducted in collaboration with NCPC, security agencies, and other relevant government bodies—was designed to validate travel documents and prepare pilgrims for the journey.
Okudero added that the exercise would help the medical team determine the necessary medications to be taken along, ensuring adequate care for pilgrims with specific health needs. He urged participants to adhere to all guidelines and laws of the holy sites and to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of Lagos State and Nigeria.
