The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives have seized more than 3.2 tonnes of cannabis in separate operations across Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Abia and Lagos states.
The agency also intercepted cocaine shipments bound for Saudi Arabia and Italy, as well as 309.4 kilograms of cannabis-infused cookies and gummies at the Tincan Port complex in Lagos.
The NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The largest seizure came from Ondo State, where operatives intercepted a truck carrying 1,633 kilograms of skunk along the Akure-Ilesha Expressway.
The cannabis was allegedly concealed in bags of rice shafts.
NDLEA officers arrested two suspects, Buba Jamilu, 40, and Sanusi Ibrahim, 30, in connection with the seizure.
In another operation in Ondo, operatives recovered 147 kilograms of skunk from Ita Ogbolu forest.
More Cannabis Seized
In Oyo State, NDLEA operatives raided a drug warehouse in Elebure village, Orire Local Government Area, where they recovered 731.03 kilograms of skunk.
The agency said officers arrested a 57-year-old suspect, Felicia Thompson, while her alleged partner, Thompson Vincent Nwaka, remained at large.
In Edo State, operatives backed by soldiers recovered 604.5 kilograms of skunk from 65 jumbo bags at Ewe Luleha in Owan West Local Government Area.
NDLEA officers also seized seven kilograms of skunk during a raid at Samec by Powerline in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State.
In Lagos, operatives arrested wanted drug dealer Adome Claude Sikuru after a three-month manhunt.
The agency said officers recovered 88.5 kilograms of skunk from him at the Fibre Market drug area in Badagry.
Cocaine, Cannabis-Infused Products Intercepted
The NDLEA said it also stopped attempts to export cocaine concealed in 25 phone chargers to Saudi Arabia and in the false bottom of a backpack to Italy.
The two consignments weighed 1.2 kilograms and 500 grams respectively.
At the Tincan Port complex, NDLEA officers, Customs and other security agencies jointly examined a 40-foot container and discovered 73 cartons containing 442 packets of cannabis-infused cookies and gummies.
The products weighed 309.4 kilograms.
The agency said a suspect, Larry Nnaji, had been arrested in connection with the seizure.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved in the operations.
He urged personnel to sustain the agency’s efforts against drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
