Nigeria survived a major scare from Ghana to secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory in their second Group C match at the 2026 African Senior Women’s Nations Volleyball Championship in Kenya.
The Nigerian side claimed the opening set 25-21, but Ghana responded with a 25-21 win in the second set. Nigeria regained the advantage with a dominant 25-11 victory in the third set, only for Ghana to force a deciding set by taking the fourth 25-11.
The fifth set produced a thrilling finish as both teams battled for every point. Nigeria eventually held their nerve to win 18-16 and seal the crucial victory.
Head coach Elishama Elam praised his players for their fighting spirit, acknowledging the strong challenge from Ghana.
“This win means a lot to the entire team because we need to win and stand a chance of progressing to the next stage,” Elam said.
“The girls played with their heart and I expect them to do the same in the next match against Cameroon.”
Nigeria will face Cameroon in their final Group C match on Thursday, August 27, with progression to the next stage at stake.
