Nigeria and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations following a meeting between Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Borisenko Evgenievich, and Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Russia, Joseph Iji, in Moscow.
The meeting marked a key milestone in Ambassador Iji’s diplomatic mission as he formally presented copies of his credentials, paving the way for the commencement of his official duties in the Russian Federation.
According to a statement from the Russian Embassy in Nigeria, both officials held discussions on expanding cooperation across critical sectors, including trade, economic development, science and technology, humanitarian affairs, and other areas of shared interest.
The engagement also underscored a mutual desire to strengthen political dialogue and build on the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
Nigeria and Russia have maintained diplomatic relations for more than six decades, with cooperation spanning education, energy, security, defence, and commerce. The latest talks signal renewed efforts by both countries to unlock fresh opportunities for economic growth and strategic collaboration that could benefit their citizens.
