The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has inaugurated eight sub-committees to oversee preparations for the 2025 UNIBEN/NILDS joint convocation ceremony.
The event, scheduled for October, marks the ninth edition of the partnership between the University of Benin and NILDS. Speaking at the inauguration held at the Institute’s headquarters in Abuja, Professor Sulaiman stressed the importance of effective coordination and professionalism in delivering a successful ceremony.
The sub-committees, drawn from key stakeholders, will oversee 18 critical operational areas. Among them is the 10-member Committee on Convocation Programme and Lectures, chaired by a representative of the Senate President, with UNIBEN’s Provost of Postgraduate Studies serving as Alternate Chair. Their tasks include proposing the date and programme outline for the convocation.
Also inaugurated was the Sub-Committee on Venue and Logistics, led by a representative of the Clerk to the National Assembly, with six major assignments outlined.
Other committees include Finance, Advertisement, Graduands’ Affairs, Fundraising, and Rapporteur. All are expected to submit activity reports through the Rapporteur Committee for proper coordination.
Professor Sulaiman reaffirmed NILDS’s commitment to academic excellence and democratic governance, urging committee members to approach their duties with diligence and a strong sense of purpose.
