NILDS Targets December for Clinic Laboratory to Improve Staff Healthcare

By Sofia Adenekan-Abdul

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) is set to establish a laboratory at its clinic by December 2026 to improve medical testing and diagnosis for staff.

The Director-General, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, announced the plan during the institute’s third Social and Sports Day in Abuja, while urging staff to support efforts to acquire essential medical equipment.

He said the institute also planned to equip the clinic’s pharmaceutical section saying plans are ongoing to explore partnerships with the National Hospital and other healthcare facilities to facilitate referrals for staff requiring further treatment.

Prof Sulaiman said the proposed partnerships would enable referred staff to receive medical attention without immediate payment at the point of referral.

He urged management and staff who could afford it to contribute towards acquiring the necessary equipment, stressing that the institute remained committed to improving staff welfare.

Prof Sulaiman revealed that the initiative to establish Social and Sports Day began on May 1, 2026, as part of activities marking Workers’ Day, designed to promote physical exercise, relaxation and interaction among staff.

He estimated that nearly 200 staff members participated in the latest edition, describing the turnout as encouraging compared with the previous event.

According to him, the initiative promotes healthy living, reduces workplace stress and strengthens relationships among employees and management.

Earlier, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Olalere Moshood, commended the DG for prioritising staff welfare and establishing the clinic.

Moshood expressed optimism that the initiative had created opportunities for staff to relax, strengthen workplace relationships and promote teamwork.

He adding that management hoped to sustain the programme as part of efforts to build a positive workplace culture.
