By Arinzechi Chukwunonso

The Chairman of NNPC Ltd, Engineer Ahmadu Kida, has urged local and international investors to join Nigeria in unlocking the nation’s vast gas potential, describing natural gas as a key driver for industrial and economic transformation.

Engineer Kida made the call during the official unveiling of the NNPC Gas Master Plan 2026 (NGMP 2026) at NNPC Towers in Abuja, calling the launch “a landmark moment in the evolution of Nigeria’s energy future.”

“Gas is not just part of Nigeria’s energy mix, but a catalyst for industrialization, power stability, economic diversification, and environmental responsibility,” he said.

The Plan aligns with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative, aiming to scale national gas production to 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030, while attracting over $60 billion in investments across the oil and gas value chain.

Engineer Kida emphasized NNPC’s commitment to partnerships, noting that the Plan was developed in consultation with industry stakeholders to reflect both national priorities and investor interests.

“NNPC is demonstrating that a win-win partnership is not just a slogan it is the foundation of our strategy,” he said.

The event also featured key industry leaders and government officials:
• Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, praised the Plan as a shift from policy to disciplined execution.
• NNPC Ltd Group CEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, described it as “a bold, execution-driven roadmap” aligned with the Presidential mandate.
• Industry figures including Adegbite Falade (IPPG) and Matthieu Bouyer (OPTS/TotalEnergies) pledged support, emphasizing its potential to boost Nigeria’s economy.
Engineer Kida concluded: “Together, we are building the Nigeria of tomorrow one powered by gas, strengthened by partnership, and propelled by shared ambition.”

The NNPC Gas Master Plan 2026 builds on the 2008 Gas Master Plan and provides a definitive framework for coordinated gas sector development, disciplined execution, and sustained value creation over the next decade.
