The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili, urging her to return to the national team after World Athletics denied her request to switch allegiance.

Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, made the appeal while addressing journalists in Abuja, stressing that the country remains firmly behind the athlete despite recent developments.

Describing Ofili as “our daughter,” Olopade expressed both affection and optimism, encouraging her to look beyond the setback and reconnect with her roots.

“We love her so much… I am urging Ofili and those close to her that home is waiting for her,” he said, assuring her of full institutional backing ahead of future international competitions, including the Olympics.

The Commission acknowledged the challenges elite athletes face when making career decisions but emphasized its resolve to provide a more supportive and enabling environment for Nigerian talents to thrive.

It also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration with sports federations and stakeholders to guarantee athletes improved welfare, resources, and the structural support required to succeed on the global stage.

The statement reinforces the NSC’s broader commitment to rebuilding trust and strengthening its relationship with top athletes as Nigeria continues preparations for upcoming international events.
