The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of abusing its powers by freezing the Osun State Government account ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The council described the action as an attempt to interfere with the election and put economic pressure on the people of Osun State.
In a statement dated August 5, 2026, and signed by its Media and Publicity Committee Chairman, Bamidele Salam, TICC questions the timing of the EFCC’s action.
The council said the account was frozen about 10 days before the election, with the incumbent governor also contesting the poll.
TICC alleged that the freeze could frustrate the state government’s ability to pay salaries, pensions and allowances and fund essential services.
It also said the restriction could affect infrastructure projects, security interventions and planned public health programmes.
The council described the action as a “brazen abuse of authority” and accused the EFCC of exceeding its mandate.
TICC said it supports accountability in governance but rejected what it described as “political witch-hunting disguised as corruption fight.”
According to the council, the timing and circumstances surrounding the account freeze raised political concerns.
The group urged the EFCC to stop what it described as attempts to interfere with the choice of Osun voters.
“We therefore call on the EFCC to immediately unfreeze the account so that governance can continue,” the council said.
TICC maintained that Osun residents should be allowed to freely exercise their democratic rights at the polls.
The council also urged public institutions to avoid becoming political weapons against citizens.
